HMRC’s New VAT registration number checker is a useful tool. The users can now check if a VAT registration number is valid and the name and address of the business to which the number is registered.
If you claim VAT as charged by a supplier and the VAT number of the supplier is invalid, HMRC may disallow your VAT claim. Therefore, it’s always a good practice to check if the supplier’s VAT registration number is valid.
You can use HMRC’s new VAT registration number checker service to check:
- if a UK VAT registration number is valid
- the name and address of the business the number is registered to
If you are a UK VAT-registered business, you can also use this service to prove when you checked a UK VAT number.
You will need your own VAT number to do this.
